The Atlanta Motoring Festival & Concours d'Elegance proudly announces its 2026 Best of Show winner. Our esteemed judges have chosen the exquisite 1927 Phantom I Brougham de Ville (61RF), featuring the elegant Binder coachwork originally commissioned for Jessie Woolworth Donahue. This prestigious accolade was awarded during our event held from May 1-3 at the picturesque Lanier Islands Resort. Currently part of the Ron Green Bodacious Boats and Cars Collection, this magnificent automobile was initially acquired by James Donahue of New York City, a prosperous businessman, for his wife Jessie Woolworth, the illustrious heiress to the Woolworth department store legacy.
The vehicle was her choice for the annual sojourn to Paris, its conservative dark trim conveying a discreet elegance. It was further distinguished by Grebel headlights and exquisite, jewel-like carriage lamps.
The design employed nickel sparingly, and the luxurious interior was appointed with broadcloth upholstery framed by fine parquet woodwork. A classic Brougham de Ville, it featured an open driver's compartment, while the rear seating was strictly reserved for two adults, devoid of any provision for additional passengers or luggage.
This car represents the quality of vehicles that can be discovered at the Atlanta Concours.

2026 Best of Show Concours du'Sport is James Strickland’s 1961 Jaguar E-Type (s/n 006) is a historically significant early-production model. As the sixth production E-Type ever built, it is widely recognized as the second oldest surviving E-Type in the world. Early production models featured a 3.8-liter inline-six engine capable of speeds pushing 150 mph, making it the fastest production car globally at the time of its release. Highly restored and maintained, James Strickland's s/n 006 retains its original numbers-matching engine, cylinder head, and body—a hallmark of true classic car preservation

  • Vehicle Origin: Manufactured very shortly after the legendary debut of the E-Type at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show.
  • The "006" Significance: Being the sixth chassis, it features early "flat floor" architecture, welded bonnet louvers, and outside bonnet latches highly coveted by serious automotive historians.

Unveiling the Best - The Cofer Collection "Stable of Thoroughbreds"

Founded in 1951 by the late Gene Cofer, The Cofer Collection—known as the “Stable of Thoroughbreds”—is one of the Southeast’s finest and most respected assemblies of American automobiles. What began with a 1926 Buick grew into an extraordinary, multi-generational legacy shared by Gene and his wife Neta, their five children, and twelve grandchildren.

Guided by Gene’s philosophy, “If you can’t enjoy them, why have them?” the collection is known not only for its quality, but for its cars being regularly driven and enjoyed. Today, under the stewardship of Chip Cofer and curator Cecil McCall, the collection continues to thrive.

Its shining star is the remarkable 1935 Fernandez & Darrin-bodied SJ Duesenberg, once owned by Madeline Astor, widow of John Jacob Astor. Several automobiles from the collection have also appeared in major motion pictures.

The Cofer Collection stands as a living tribute to Gene Cofer’s passion—preserved, celebrated, and shared for generations to come.
